On July 29, the SEA‑H2X Southeast‑Asia‑Hainan‑Hong Kong international submarine cable, invested and built mainly by China Mobile, passed acceptance and officially entered commercial service. Stretching 5,746 kilometers in total length, the system contains 8 pairs of trunk optical fibers with a total designed capacity exceeding 200 Tbps.
This submarine cable directly links Hainan and Hong Kong of China with the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries. Over 95% of global cross‑border internet data travels via submarine cables, which underpin AI large models, cloud computing and cross‑border e‑commerce with high bandwidth and low latency. The commissioning of SEA‑H2X relieves traffic pressure on existing international submarine cables, reduces network latency between China and Southeast Asia, improves regional network reliability, and provides fundamental digital infrastructure for cross‑border digital services.
